BYRON – Dixon High School student and Byron Co-op swimmer Katie Drezen is our WREX Athlete of the Week, presented by Rock Valley College.
Drezen helped her team qualify for state in two relay events for the first time in school history, and also qualified individually in the 50-yard freestyle.
“It’s been a really big goal of mine,” Drezen said of qualifying in both relays and individually.
But it’s not just in the pool where Drezen excels. She sets a great example for the younger girls in the program. Drezen works with a group called BLIND – Building Lasting Impressions that Never Die. It’s an anti-bullying initiative. Her younger teammates see how she treats people.
“Just to be nice to everyone you meet,” freshman swimmer Kate Schilling said. “I’ve never seen her be mean to anybody.”
Drezen is set for a busy weekend at state, and she wouldn’t have it any other way for her final time in the pool as a high school swimmer.
