ROCKFORD (WREX) – A veteran is preparing for a cross country bike trip with the goal of helping other veterans.

Tracy Sefcik, a U.S. Navy veteran, is going on the trip to raise money for the Oscar Mike Foundation. Earlier in 2018, Sefcik rode from San Diego to St. Augustine, Fla. to raise money for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

“Number one is I feel it’s us that need to give back to the veterans, especially to the organizations that don’t get the big fundraising,” Sefcik said.

Sefcik’s goal is to raise $50,000 for the foundation.

“Support from people like Tracy is what make the mission possible,” Oscar Mike Foundation Founder & President Noah Currier said. “Without people being as generous as she is and fundraising like that, we wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing.”

Sefcik will begin her tip in August of 2021 at the Robert McClory Trail in Illinois and will cover about 2,547 miles through the United States and Canada until she finishes in Chicago.
