MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Experts say the homicide charge filed this week against a 10-year-old Wisconsin girl is rare, but not unprecedented. The girl told investigators she panicked after dropping a baby at a home day care and then stomped on the baby’s head when he began crying. She sobbed during a court appearance where she was led away in handcuffs. One study shows that from 2007 through 2016, 44 children aged 10 or younger were believed to be responsible for homicides in the U.S. Seven of them were girls.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison has terminated its Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter after people pushed a television off the chapter’s balcony and nearly hit a woman this summer. UW-Madison previously had suspended the chapter, pending an investigation, shortly after the June 30 incident. The national Kappa Sigma fraternity earlier withdrew the chapter’s charter. The chapter cannot re-register as a student organization for five years. The chapter can appeal the decision.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Hundreds of mourners in a small northwestern Wisconsin community are saying goodbye to three young Girl Scouts and a mother who were struck and killed while picking up trash along a rural highway. Family, friends and others gathered at two Chippewa Falls churches Thursday for the funerals of Autumn Helgeson, Haylee Hickle and her mother, Sara Jo Schneider. A funeral for Jayna Kelley is planned for Friday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Correctional Institution was locked down after an inmate assaulted a staff member. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections says the assault happened Friday morning. The employee was injured and is receiving medical care. The Corrections Department has begun an internal investigation and referred the incident to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
