Rockford Police Department donates evidence from drug seizures to high school horticulture program

ROCKFORD (WREX)- The Horticulture Program at Rockford East High School got help from Rockford Police.

RPD donated heat lamps and piping that was confiscated as evidence from drug seizures to the program.

Rockford East says a teacher reached out to the department and asked if it had seized any equipment from a drug operation. The school says the donation, “fell into their lap.”

“Our police department, they generally respond to the needs of our school and our district,” said Bill Rose, Rockford East High School Academy Coach. “It is something that we’re happy that they were able to accommodate some of our needs.”

The equipment will help students continue to grow plants they’re studying indoors during the winter months.
