GAR tumbler heading to international competition in Russia

ROCKFORD – Daniela Zavala will put her tumbling skills on display among the best in the world in November. The Boylan junior trains at the Gymnastic Academy of Rockford, and will compete at the World Championships in Russia. She says this meet is equivalent to the Olympics for tumblers.

“This is the biggest competition I’m ever going to go to and it’s really exciting because there’s no Olympics for tumbling, so this is our Olympics,” Zavala said.

She’s talked to some of her GAR teammates about their experiences at international competitions.

“They said it’s really cool, but it’s also easy to get wrapped up into it so I’m just trying to stay focused and do my job there,” Zavala said.

As for why she enjoys tumbling, there’s one big reason.

“I just love the feeling of being in the air,” she said. “It feels like you’re flying.”

Zavala will fly to Russia a week from Sunday and compete at the World Championships in mid-November.
