Ogle Co. Health Department reports increase of gonorrhea

OGLE COUNTY (WREX) – The Ogle County Health Department is working with the state to address higher rates of gonorrhea in the county.

The health department reports an increase of 171% in gonorrhea cases from 2017 to 2018.

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease passed through sexual contact. People that contract the disease may be asymptomatic or symptoms may not present for several weeks or months.

Symptoms may include burning or pain with urination. Untreated gonorrhea may lead to infertility for both men and women.

The Ogle County Health Department recommends anyone who may have been exposed to gonorrhea through a sex partner should seek care immediately for testing and treatment.
