Mayor’s March Against Domestic Violence

Rockford (WREX) — Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara and 13 WREX are teaming up for the first Mayor’s March Against Domestic Violence.

The 2-mile walk will be a tour of locations survivors of domestic violence must visit to receive help in our community. The march will make stops at the following locations:

  • RAMP
  • Winnebago Co. Courthouse/Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic
  • City of Rockford Human Services
  • Carrie Lynn Center
  • City Hall

Friday morning, Mayor McNamara joined 13 News Today Anchor Nicole Stein in studio to talk about the march, and why it is so important.

“I think it’s just really highlighting that throughout all our best efforts, we really still have not become the survivor endorsed community where we’re really putting survivors first.” said Mayor McNamara.

The walk will begin at noon at City Hall on Sunday, October 14.

13 WREX is teaming up with the City of Rockford on this march as part of our month-long series on domestic violence.  The series, “Out of the Darkness,” is a series of stories on the impact domestic violence is having on our community.

The Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council is also partnering to make this march happen
