MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democratic attorney general hopeful Josh Kaul is tweaking Republican incumbent Brad Schimel for taking too long to test thousands of unanalyzed sexual assault kits during their first debate. The state Department of Justice received federal grants to begin testing thousands of kits sitting on police and hospital shelves in 2015.

MENASHA, Wis. (AP) — A man wanted in connection with a house fire that killed a toddler in Menasha has turned himself in to police. A criminal complaint alleges 29-year-old Vernon Williams was drunk and asleep when a 3-year-old, playing with a lighter, started a blanket on fire Sept. 6. That child and a 5-year-old escaped the fire, but an 18-month-old boy was killed.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — As the Milwaukee Brewers prepare for Game One of the National League Championship Series, fans are cashing in on the team’s victory in the ‘beer series.’ Free Miller Lite or Coors was at stake in the National League Division Series between Milwaukee and Denver. The Brewers won it in a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies. And now, MillerCoors is making good on its promise and calling it Free Beer Friday. Free Miller Lite is available at dozens of bars and restaurants in Milwaukee.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (AP) — Police in the Racine County community of Mount Pleasant say speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash. Authorities say the driver of the ATV ignored signs of a road closure about 1:40 a.m. Friday and vaulted into a rocky ravine. The driver was killed and a passenger was injured.
