Victim identified after deadly shooting in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot and killed Wednesday evening in Rockford as 35-year-old Prince Chatman.

Police Chief Dan O’Shea says officers were responding to a crash at Chestnut Street and S. Johnston Avenue. When they arrived, they found Chapman shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

O’Shea told 13 WREX reporters that he believes Chapman was found shot to death in the car.

Rockford Police do not have a suspect in custody.
