Athlete of the Week – Alex Staver

STOCKTON – Stockton senior golfer Alex Staver is our new WREX Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Rock Valley College. Staver is the only four-time NUIC conference champion in league history, and is set to make his third trip to state this weekend.

“A goal for me, top ten really, top five would be amazing,” Staver said. “I want to play college golf, so being there and having a good opportunity to get looked at by good colleges would be a great opportunity for me.”

Staver’s mental approach on the course has helped make him one of the most successful golfers in the area.

“If it’s not going right, just grind it out,” Staver said. “That’s one of the big things I’ve learned through four years of high school. Just grind it out and finish the day as best you can.”

Staver has one more tournament to represent the Blackhawks, and he’ll bring his even-keeled approach to state with him this weekend, hoping for one more memory in his high school golf career.
