‘Trooper in a Truck’ program will help ISP spot distracted drivers

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Illinois State Police have a new way to spot distracted drivers.

Troopers are now riding along with semi truck drivers. It gives them a higher vantage point to see if someone is using a phone behind the wheel.

They then radio patrol cars who pull over the drivers. They’re calling the initiative “Trooper in a Truck.”

Thirteen drivers were cited within 4 hours in one area because of the initiative.
