ROCKFORD (WREX) – The heat that built up on Friday will last into the weekend, and with more humidity, it will feel like summer.
Friday hit a high of 87° in Rockford, and temperatures will be very similar to that this weekend. Both days should reach the middle 80’s, though fall slightly short of Friday’s high thanks to slightly cooler easterly winds. With a little added humidity building in, the heat index rises to the around 90°. While this won’t be the hottest weekend we’ve had over the last few months, remember to drink extra water and have the sunscreen handy. The weather remains bright and sunny through the weekend and into early next week.
Temperatures like this in mid-September are around or above 10° above average, as usually we see the middle 70’s around this time of the year.
The heat won’t last forever, as some variety enters the forecast. We’ll still see the 80’s for Monday and Tuesday, but highs for those days do lower a little into the low 80’s. After that, a much more active weather pattern sets in. Wednesday features scattered showers and storms by the evening, as temperatures dip into the middle 70’s. Then, the front that brings in the cooler weather rebounds, bringing the 80’s back on Thursday with a chance for storms in the morning. After that, cooler weather takes back over in a big way as temperatures fall to the 60’s for highs by Friday, and that weather could last into the following weekend.
