75 students awarded scholarships to go to private schools in Rockford area

Several students got a big boost financially to go to private school in the area.

Empower Illinois presented a check for more than $438,000 at a ceremony at Alpine Academy.

The scholarships look to not only help the students but their parents as well.

“For her, Alpine is an amazing school and that’s where she goes. And so we’re so excited to have her here. And then for me it’s nice because it’s a little less stress for me having to do the tuition and everything else. So it’s awesome,” said Melody Healy, a parent.

The money will fund scholarships for 75 students from kindergarten through 12th grade so that they can attend private schools during the first year of the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship Program.
