Justin joined WREX in August of 2018 as the morning and noon meteorologist. He moved here from Charlotte, N.C.
He spent most of his life in the small town of Lincolnton, N.C., about 45-minutes to the northwest of Charlotte. Justin graduated in December of 2017 from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. He began his meteorology career as an intern at WCNC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Charlotte.
Justin has always wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist. From a young age, he would draw weather maps and pretend to give a “forecast” from his room. A brush with a tornado in Myrtle Beach, S.C., solidified his desire to study the atmosphere and its inner-workings.
“July 6, 2001. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I remember being in the heart of Myrtle Beach and looking up and thinking, ‘The sky here is really dark.’ By the time we were able to get to the hotel, there was a debris cloud on the ground and we hunkered down for shelter in the concrete garage. I can recall looking up while the tornado was going over and seeing palm fronds and garbage just flying everywhere.”
This is Justin’s first job out of school and he finally feels like his childhood dream has come true.
When he’s not tracking storms or reading the latest National Weather Service discussion, Justin likes to spend time cooking. He enjoys trying new recipes and testing them out on friends, a fact that drives his Mom insane.
