James Stratton

Evening Anchor

James joined WREX in August of 2018 as the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. anchor. He comes to us from KWQC TV-6 in the Quad Cities.

He grew up in a small town about 20 minutes south of the Quad Cities and since high school wanted to be a journalist. James graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and majored in Multimedia Journalism and Political Science. James began his career at KWQC as a photographer before moving up to reporter and eventually weekend anchor before coming to Rockford. Over the last few years, he’s interviewed almost every presidential candidate, covered the Iowa Caucuses and chased tornadoes across Iowa and Illinois. His most recent work includes a 30 minute special about juvenile crime.

His passion for reporting and journalism started in high school where he did morning announcements and a sports recap show on a closed circuit TV channel.

When he’s not at work, James can be found water or snow skiing, cooking, trail running or working out.

Little known facts about James:

  • I was born on Halloween and got A TON of candy as a kid.
  • I compete on a water ski team called the Backwater Gamblers, similar to the Ski Broncs.
  • I am obsessed with food, cooking it and eating it.
  • I collect political buttons.
