Urban Equity Properties buys commercial building in downtown Rockford

Urban Equity Properties is adding another building in downtown Rockford to its list of properties.

UEP purchased the commercial building at 119 N. Church Street. The building is located next to the company’s Talcott Building, which is undergoing a $16 million renovation.

Urban Equity Properties closed on the property Aug. 6. It was previously owned by the family of Rockford lawyer Greg Tuite, whose law firm will remain at the address along with 7 other tenants.

Formerly called the "Nu-State Building," by Rockford contractor Max Liebling, who built the Times Theater, it was a major post-Depression commercial downtown development. Osco Drug anchored the property from 1951-1983.

The purchase includes an 80-space parking lot at the corner of N. Church and Mulberry Streets.

UEP President Justin Fern plans to rename the building back to its original name, the "Nu-State Building."
