If you suffer from heart disease, SwedishAmerican Hospital now has a device to help you out.
The hospital is starting to offer ICDs, which stands for implantable cardioverter defibrillators. The device the hospital has is the only one ever to provide a notice of impending heart failure about 34 days in advance. If the device goes off, a cardiologist would be contacted and get a detailed report. The physician then decides if the patient needs to go to the hospital or if they need to readjust treatment.
"It’s like being able to predict that a car accident is going to happen and stopping it before it happens 30 days in advance, which is a major benefit to all these patients," SwedishAmerican Heart Center Electrophysioligist Dr. John Kaminski said.
SwedishAmerican is the only hospital in the Rockford area to offer this technology.
