Vacant house goes up in flames early Sunday morning

The Rockford Fire Department responded to a house fire on south Third street early Sunday morning.

Rockford Fire responded to the call at 720 south Third street just before six Sunday morning. When crews arrived on scene there was heavy smoke and a lot of heat coming from the vacant house. Firefighters searched the home and did not find anyone inside.

The Department says due to the conditions inside the house, the fought the fire from the outside and were able to get it under control. The vacant home is considered a total loss and is being demolished.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
