After a long deliberation, the Winnebago County Board voted 10 to 9 approving a proposed asphalt plant in Rockton.
This comes after push back from residents in the area who have said they don’t want it in their area. Many residents have stated they’re afraid it will hurt their property values, and are also concerned about the chemicals that could be released into the air.
The proposal comes from Northern Illinois Service, a company out of Rockford. The company says new technology eliminates those concerns, and would add quality jobs and revenue to the county.
