The Diocese of Rockford announces All Saints Catholic Academy as the name of the new Catholic school opening in Rockford.
The school will be housed on the campus of St. James and will consolidate St. Bernadette, St. James. St. Edwards and St. Peters schools.
The announcement was made Thursday evening during a summer get-together at Sinnissippi Park. Student representatives from all four schools flipped over signs that read, "Follow me to All Saints Catholic Academy."
"All Saints Academy is a fitting name for our new school, given the rich history and tradition of the eight parishes that have come together," said Ed Geeser, chair of the Joint Schools Committee. "Our students and parents are getting very excited about the future, and with our new name in place, we can start to form a new school identity and family."
The Diocese says the new school will reflect Catholic values and have a curriculum focused on science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math.
The four schools falling under consolidation will close by the 2019 school year.
