The IHSA girls track & field state series sent many an athlete from the Northern Illinois region to the winners’ podium at Eastern Illinois.
Reigning 13 WREX Athlete of the Week Emily Offenheiser, Stockton’s standout thrower, won the 1-A state title in the discus, while also taking home a silver in the shot put.
Fellow 1-A competitor Carmen DeVries captured the 1-A 400m state championship, and finished 4th in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump, representing Lena-Winslow.
Class 2-A saw Dixon’s Tayla Schwarz win gold in the discus, and place 3rd in the shot put. The Duchesses’ 4x800m relay team placed 8th, with Sarah stegbauer placing 5th in the discus.
Class 3-A’s state finals were a major success for DeKalb – the Lady Barbs placed 2nd in the 4x100m relay, while taking first in the 4x200m relay event. Katherine Olsen (6th place, 3200m), Sierra Long (7th, 400m), and Brimonet Buggs (4th, 200m) all finished top ten in their respective events.
