Stars Hand IceHogs First Playoff Loss in Game 1 of West Final

The Rockford IceHogs’ perfect postseason came to an end in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final, dropping a 4-2 series opener to the Texas Stars.

The IceHogs had won their first seven playoff games, bringing two sweeps into the franchise’s first Calder Cup conference final before running into a Stars team that held home ice advantage in the Lone Star State.

After falling into a 1-0 deficit, Carl Dahlstrom continued the IceHogs’ stellar playoff power play, scoring on helpers from Chris DiDomenico and Adam Clendening. 1:18 later in the first period, the Stars took a 2-1 lead.

DiDomenico brought the Hogs back again with a second period equalizer, but the Stars tallied the game’s final two goals to earn the Game 1 victory and take a 1-0 West Final series lead.

Collin Delia made 17 saves against 20 shots, while Mike McKenna earned the win for the Stars with 26 saves on 28 shots faced.

Game 2 of the series is Sunday at 5:00 in Texas.
