Roscoe church holds service for fallen officer

National Police Week wraps up today with fallen officers being honored in our nation’s capitol, among those officers honored were Jaimie Cox of the Rockford Police Department.

But the services weren’t just held to Washington D.C. Last night, Roscoe United Methodist Church hosted an Ecumenical Memorial Service for members of law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty. The community lit candles and sang songs in remembrance of local law enforcement. The ceremony was particularly special for the family of fallen Rockford Officer Charles Williams who was killed in the line of duty in 1972.

Members of Williams family said they wanted to be on hand to support those who lost loved ones, similar to the support they received when Charles died.

"I had a big support when my husband died too. The officers all came together and the memorial service was started because of my husband’s death." said Mary Williams, the widow of Charles Williams.

The remembrance in our area isn’t done yet. The Tebala Shrine Conference Center is hosting a police remembrance ceremony at 8 A.M. today, Friday May 18th.
