A national sports championship tournament will be rolling into Rockford.
"The UW Health Sports Factory will be hosting the United States Quad Rugby National Championships for the next three years," Rick Kolberg, with the Oscar Mike Foundation says.
The United States Quad Rugby Association allows people with disabilities the chance to compete in competitive wheelchair rugby. The Oscar Mike Foundation is a local foundation that was founded in Marengo on Sept. 11 2011.
Its goal is to keep disabled veterans on the move. Oscar Mike’s team, the militia, asked the USQRA to bring the national tournament to Rockford
But, that wasn’t the only proposal it was successful in pushing through.
"I’m happy to announce we are the newest members and the only all veteran wheelchair rugby team in existence and we are official members of the Quad Rugby Association," Kolberg says.
Tournament directors say this will happen the last week of March in 2019. At least 16 teams are already signed up for the event.
