Parker Center’s cafeteria in Machesney Park now has a new name.
The early education center named its cafeteria after Bruce Henning, the head custodian. He’s retiring at the end of the school year after working at Harlem School District for 40 years. As Henning gets ready for retirement, he says he won’t forget the kids who brighten his day.
"It’s been basically a give and take thing," Henning said. "I feel the same way about them as they do about me."
Henning served 4 years in the Air Force before working as a custodian at North Park School, Harlem High School and then Windsor Elementary. He’s spent the last 20 years working at Parker Center.
