The Rockford IceHogs remain perfect in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs, and are about to play in the franchise’s first conference final since joining the American Hockey League.
The IceHogs scored at least four goals for the sixth straight game and won their seventh playoff game in a row, routing the Manitoba Moose 6-3 at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Game 4 of the Central Division Finals to finish the four-game sweep.
Jeremy Colliton’s first season as head coach continues to rewrite the team’s record books – their seven-game playoff winning streak is a franchise best, and their Western Conference Final appearance is the first in the team’s AHL tenure.
Both teams alternated goals in the first period, with a 2-2 score after 20 minutes. The IceHogs then erupted for three unanswered second period tallies and added an empty-netter late in the third for the final exclamation point in front of a raucous home crowd.
The IceHogs went 4 for 9 on the power play and did not allow a Moose power play goal on six shorthanded shifts. Their power play is producing at a 37.5% clip, blowing away the rest of the league’s remaining playoff teams. Rockford’s penalty kill is at 92.9%, also the AHL’s best in the playoffs.
