A Civil War Veteran was finally able to be honored by his friends and family in Roscoe this afternoon.
It took more than 150 years for John Valentine Artlip’s family to find his original grave site which was located in the Roscoe cemetery. There have always been questions by family members of where Artlip’s body was actually buried. This afternoon his great-great grandson, Ken Artlip along with other family and friends honored him at his proper grave site where he was buried 150 years ago.
Ken says he has looked for the original burial site for nearly 50 years and is extremely excited that he was able to locate it and honor his great great grandfather properly.
"I was determined to find him and it took me this long to do it. So that means a lot to me that I was able to find him. He’s my hero and I found him," Artlip said.
Sargent John Valentine Artlip now proudly rests in grave number two, plot 131 in the Roscoe Cemetery.
