Chicago Blackhawks Hall of Famer Bobby Hull paid Rockford a visit on the last Saturday afternoon of March, spending time with local hockey fans and signing autographs at the downtown memorabilia shop.
"I know how passionate they are about their hockey team," Hull said about Rockford’s commitment to the sport, whether it be with youth leagues or strong attendance numbers at IceHogs games. Hull had particularly high praise for the AHL-NHL partnership between the teams in Rockford and Chicago.
"They’ve trained a lot of great kids to come to the big team in Chicago. They’ve played so very well for them," Hull said.
Hull’s #9 jersey hangs in the United Center rafters as one of the sweater numbers retired by the Blackhawks. He won the Stanley Cup with the team in 1961, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
