Area hospitals lift visitor age restrictions as flu numbers drop

The flu is still widespread in 16 states, but Illinois isn’t one of them.

As flu activity across the region decreases, area hospitals have lifted visitor age restrictions and masking requirements of unvaccinated healthcare staff.

Back in January, all three hospitals, in cooperation with the Winnebago County Health Department, stopped allowing visitors under the age of 18 to help fight the spread of the flu.

OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Swedish American Hospital and Mercyhealth are now back to regular visitor rules.

The CDC said more than 27,000 people have been hospitalized from the flu nationwide and 137 children have died.
