The 2018 IHSA boys swimming and diving state meet produced several local medalists from the area on the season’s final day.
Rockford Christian freshman Cameron Poole, competing in the athlete with disabilities division, won three medals – a gold in the 50-yard freestyle, and a pair of silver medals in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Poole has spina bifida and has no use of his legs, but has mastered the upper-body technique in the pool, and already has three state medals after one season of high school swimming for the Royal Lions.
Byron co-op swimmer Caleb Carlson won bronze in the 100-yard backstroke, and placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Belvidere co-op diver Jacob Hedberg placed fifth in the diving competition.
