Stockton finishes historic season as 1-A runner-up

The Stockton girls basketball team completed a historic year on the hardwood as the 2nd place team in Class 1-A, losing the state championship game to Schlarman, 53-31, at Redbird Arena in Normal.

The private school power from Danville, who finished 32-1 this season, raced out to an early lead and never relinquished it against the Lady Blackhawks. Janiah Newell paced the Lady Hilltoppers with 17 points, one of three scorers ind ouble figures.

Emily Offenheiser, who put together a 16-point, 17-rebound double-double in the 1-A state semifinal on Friday, scored 12 points and pulled in 5 rebounds for Stockton in the championship game. The Lady Blackhawks finished the year with a 32-3 record, having won 16 games in a row prior to the title game.
