Athlete of the Week – Nick Sommer

Hononegah senior bowler Nick Sommer is our WREX Athlete of the Week. Sommer and his teammates are heading to the state championship tournament this weekend in O’Fallon to try to bring home some hardware for Hononegah.

"You just need to calm yourself," Sommer said of competing at state. "Your heart rate, breathing rate, everything, and just make a shot."

Bowling runs in the family for the Sommers. Nick’s dad Brad is Hononegah’s coach, while his younger brother Jacob is also a key contributor for the team.

"Bowling with my brother for three years now, two years on varsity, has been so awesome," Nick Sommer said. "Seeing him progress with everyone else has made me so happy."

The Indians hope that progression leads to the team’s second state title in four years.
