LOVES PARK (WREX) — For 15 years, Rascals Bar & Grill has been a staple watering hole for Stateline residents near and far.

"Rascals is a place where friends meet," says owner Michael Sterling. "Large groups tend to know they can come here at anytime and put the tables together. Groups of 15, 20 we handle pretty easily."

It opened in 2006 with Sterling's father and now he runs the restaurant full time. Over the years its become the spot to grab drinks, start up good conversation and bite into delicious bar food.

"Prime rib on Thursday and Saturday nights, that's our staple," says Sterling, "and our fish fry on Fridays is pretty good. I like the French dip as a wrap, it fits perfectly into the au ju. So when you dip it everything goes in it and its amazing."

Sterling says bringing people together over a delicious meal or great cocktails is what the bar and grill is all about. They pride themselves on caring for customers and strive to make Rascals a place where people want to be. So much so, the bar has become known for its community support and generosity.

"I think supporting your community goes hand in hand with the community supporting you."

"Are you speaking it or are you doing it," says Sterling ,"and we like to be out there actually doing it. We are constantly holding different fundraisers and community functions, its something we are very proud of."

At the end of July, Rascals hosted a 'Christmas in July' benefit to raise money for Christmas For Kids, a local non-profit that provides gifts for underprivileged kids in the Harlem School District during the holidays.

Sterling say they raised $8,000 and all of it was raised by the community for the community.

"I think it speaks volumes to the commitment we get from our customer base that they appreciate it," says Sterling.

"They come out, they support it and they have fun as well."

Sterling says no matter what, good food and a good time are always guaranteed when you walk into Rascals.

Rascals Bar & Grill is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is located at 5223 Torque Road in Loves Park.
