Multiple fire agencies rescue 11 animals in a house fire in Belvidere

BELVIDERE (WREX) — Eleven animals are saved after multiple fire agencies respond to a house fire in Belvidere Friday morning.

According to the Belvidere Fire Department, fire crews responded to the 300 block of Menominee Street just after 3 a.m. After arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the back of the two story home. Crews then found a fire in the laundry area.

Two dogs and nine puppies were rescued, according to officials. No injuries were reported.

Fire and EMS personnel from Boone County, Capron Rescue, Cherry Valley, Marengo and LifeLine helped put out the fire and assist animals.

Belvidere Fire says a smoke detector alerted the family at the time of the fire which helped them escape.

Damages are estimated at $25,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
