ROCKFORD (WREX) — For authentic Greek food on wheels, The Olive Branch is the go-to food truck in the Stateline.

"Seeing everyone's gratitude and how much they love it, and keep coming back, it's a good thing to have," says owner Bob Christidis, "It's a good feeling."

When you walk up to order, don't be surprised if you have to wait in a line. Don't worry though because you won't be waiting long. Christidis says their service isn't freaky fast, it's Greeky fast.

"We can get crazy busy and every year we get busier," says Christidis, "but we get it done fast."

The truck opened in 2017 and is a love letter to Christidis' family and the recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. It's a subject that's emotional for him.

"I've got tears coming down, if it wasn't for my family helping me out I couldn't do any of this," he says, "[I] so appreciate all of them for doing it."

He sees the food truck as his way of keeping his parents legacy alive; his mother passed and his father has Alzheimer's. By serving and caring for people the way they did for him and his family, a piece of them will always live on.

"It's got all my family background on it," says Christidis, "my mom's Greek dressing recipe, my dad's souvlaki recipe. The Olive Branch comes from my mother who is from Greece, and they had an olive orchard on their farm. So that is what inspired me to do The Olive Branch."

That passion for others is evident when you grab your gyro, baklava or any of the mouthwatering options on the menu. The friendly team inside the truck says they want you to enjoy your food and have a good time eating it with others because that's the Greek way.

"It's all pretty amazing what we do, to see our followers on Facebook and what not, it's pretty amazing."

An old Greek proverb says it is difficult to argue with the belly as it has no ears, a saying that rings true when you bite in at the Olive Branch.

The food truck's hours and parking locations vary, but they are open for lunch and dinner at several spots every week.

  • Nicholas Conservatory for Food Truck Tuesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
