ROCKFORD (WREX) — The owner of a multimillion dollar mystery project in Winnebago County has been revealed. Amazon is opening up a new delivery station at the Rock-39 Industrial Park on Baxter Road.
The Winnebago County board unanimously approved the multimillion dollar mystery project, known as "Project Sawgrass," back in April.
“We are excited to continue our investment in the state of Illinois and look forward to creating hundreds of new jobs through the Amazon delivery station that will be opening in late 2022," Amazon said in a statement to 13 WREX regarding the delivery station.
The 141,000 square foot delivery station is where customer orders are prepared for last-mile delivery to the customers.
Amazon did not say how many people will be employed, but April renderings show 307 car parking spaces and 830 spots for vans.
This will be the fourth Amazon location in the Stateline. The e-commerce giant is opening a fulfillment center at the former Bon-Ton distribution center on Shepard Trail. It also operates the Amazon Prime Air hub at the Chicago Rockford International Airport and opened a fulfillment center in Beloit.
