4-year-old hit by car in Rockford has died

Two kids hurt in hit and run on School and Central

ROCKFORD (WREX) — The 4-year-old boy that was hit by a car Thursday night in Rockford has died, according to the Rockford Police Department.

The department tweeted just before 5 p.m. Friday with that update, also saying the investigation is still ongoing. The department said the 10-year-old girl is still in critical condition.

On Thursday night, Rockford Police said the children were hit by a car in the area of Central and School streets.

30-year-old Javaughn Cooper is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury/death and resisting arrest.

Police say Cooper drove off, but was pulled over five minutes later by police, he ran from his car but was eventually arrested.
