ROCK COUNTY, Wis. (WREX) — A Beloit woman is dead after a single vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say it happened in the 5400 block of S. County Highway J in LaPrairie Township in Rock County.

Police say an investigation shows a GMC Acadia was traveling south when it went into a ditch, hit a mailbox, drove through a portion of a corn field, through a yard, across a driveway and hit a tree.

The driver, a 49-year-old woman from Beloit, was the only one in the vehicle. She was taken to a hospital in Janesville where she later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash, the Rock County Sheriff's Office says.

The driver's name has not been released at this time.
