MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) — Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers officially started construction on its newest restaurant and its first in the Stateline.

The restaurant chain held a groundbreaking ceremony at its future location in Machesney Park in front of Lowe's on Highway 173.

Freddy's has more than 400 locations in 32 states, with the closest location in Crystal Lake.

"It's interesting when people try and figure out what restaurants they want in a town, they listen to people who live in the community," Freddy's Co-Founder and COO Scott Redler said. "I think people are tired of driving 45 minutes to Crystal Lake and it's time to get one closer."

The restaurant will seat more than 80 guests. Redler said he expects the Machesney Park Freddy's to open by the end of the year.
