ROCKFORD (WREX) — It was announced back in April that Rockford got one of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker's Hometown Awards. Now, there is a new way people can be reminded about it.

Leaders unveiled the Governor's Hometown Award sign outside of Guilford High School Thursday. Both Guilford and Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity earned the award in the category of Education for their project, Building New Possibilities. It gives Guilford students a chance to build a Habitat for Humanity house from the ground up.

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Keri Asevedo says the group expanded the project to include Rockford East High School for the 2021-22 school year. The group is also talking about adding other schools in the future.
