ROCKFORD (WREX) —A love for family, food and friendship is how Rock Pho's got its start in the restaurant industry.

"It's a funny story," says Rock Pho'd general manager Anolam Langsy, "we actually started off selling egg rolls and crab rangoons in our garage to send my brother down to college."

From side hustle, to full service, the Langsy family has been hard at work making their restaurant dreams come true with the Asian fusion spot.

"It grew into something bigger, we started doing catering orders, and then we were just like lets risk it and turn this into a business. Since day one it's done really well."

Turning a family passion into a thriving business.

"It's literally a mom and pop shop," says Langsy, "so we only have one cook and its just my dad back there."

"Honestly, I don't think there will ever be a calm day here at Rock Pho'd."

The restaurant opened in 2018 and specializes in Laotian cuisine with a twist.

You'll find tradition dishes like pho soup and nam khao, but you're also going to see foods that cater to the Western pallet, like their famous crab rangoons.

"We have introduced a lot of people to more authentic foods," says Langsy.

"The food is definitely made with love, lots of love and care."

A love that spreads from the kitchen to the customers.

"It's a whole family run business and everyone here, we treat them as family," says Langsy.

Since opening three years ago, the restaurant has developed a loyal base of customers. Langsy says during the pandemic, some would come multiple days in a week and even eat at the restaurant multiple times in one day.

He says his favorite part of running the restaurant is making those connections with the community.

"Just to see we have that close bond with people honestly is a gift in itself."

A gift that keeps on giving as loyal customers come back and more come in the door every day.

Rock Pho'd is open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week. It's located at 6551 East Riverside Boulevard in Rockford.
