ROCKFORD (WREX) — Summer basketball is in full swing, with local high school programs looking to build on their foundations.

The Jefferson boys graduated a few key pieces this year including Antonio Leavy and Latrell Graham. The J-Hawks were towards the top of the NIC-10 in last year's shortened season. The team now looks to use these summer games to build on the young core they have heading into next season.

"We're going to be pretty young this year but the guys have been working hard, our motto is get better everyday. Success is never easy so you always have to put the work in," said Jefferson Head Coach John Rossato.

"Those guys that have left, they worked hard throughout the years which was good for our younger guys to see," said Rossato. "We're going to ask a lot of some young guys, we've got three or four freshmen this year, you know hopefully that trend continues and they continue to work hard and like I said, get better everyday."

Summer league wraps up next week with tournament play.
