Belvidere house fire leaves one person dead, three dogs also killed

BELVIDERE (WREX) — One person is dead after a house fire in Belvidere early Friday morning.

Belvidere Fire was called to the 100 block of West 2nd Street just before 2 a.m.

Officials say heavy flames were already coming from the home when they got on scene.

One person outside told fire crews there were two people trapped inside the house.

Crews entered immediately to pull both people out and had the fire under control within 15 minutes.

All three people, the two pulled from inside the home and the person outside when crews arrived, were taken to the hospital.

Officials confirm one person has died while the conditions of the other two people is unknown at this time.

Two firefighters were also hurt battling the blaze.

Three dogs also died in the fire.

Belvidere Fire confirms the house had no working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.

The fire is still under investigation and the home is considered a total loss.
