PEARL CITY, Ill. (WREX) — Award winning burgers, craft cocktails and a good time are what you're going to expect at Route No. 73 Brew & Chew.
Whether its near or far, the burger joint brings a lot of attention to the small town of Pearl City.
"We've had [people from] Colorado, but on a daily basis we get people from Rockford area all the time, Dixon, Sterling, Chicago," says owner Refat Hasankolli.
He says going the distance for one of their burger is worth it.
"If you drive an hour, man, everything better be right, so we got to be on our game."
"We try to make every experience someone has here perfect because we want to make sure you didn't waste your time in the car," says Hasankolli.
Burgers smother in mac and cheese, bacon, onion rings and even more toppings are what the restaurant is known for. There are 18 different unique burgers on the menu, all of them created by Hasankolli.
"I love getting creative and doing my take on things."
While he has become known for his creative burger concoctions, opening a gourmet burger joint was never something Hasankolli planned on doing.
In fact, his initial calling was music.
"I was a kid that wanted to be a Rockstar and I had to get a real job," he says, "so here I am, you know?"
Now, crafting show-stopping sandwiches and artisan cocktails has become his new artform.
"It's music to me, its fun."
"I will always have a passion for music, the music is bumping in here because that's who I am, but this has made me think differently and do something we think is really unique," says Hasankolli.
Making customers mouths sign with every bite.
"We're a destination restaurant, like I'm in the middle of nowhere," he says, "and its humbling that people drive all the way here. It still boggles my mind, its awesome."
