ROCKFORD (WREX) — If you plan on hitting the road soon, you may be paying less at the pump.

An expert for GasBuddy says prices "should" be dropping soon.

"In the lead up to Memorial Day, we haven't seen gas prices come down much, though with oil's recent move lower, we should start to see more drops at the pump materialize in the days ahead," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

In Rockford, prices fell a little more than one cent this past week. The average price of gas remains to be $3.12/g in Rockford, according to GasBuddy.

Rockford gas prices are nearly 13 cents higher than last month and $1.03/g higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Rockford is priced at $2.89/g today while the most expensive is $3.25/g.

Experts say if you're hitting the road for the Memorial Day weekend, you don't need to be in a rush to fill the tank up.

"For those hitting the road, we should see prices inch lower in the coming week through at least Memorial Day, so motorists need not rush to fill their tanks as the drop in oil prices should manifest into lower gas prices as we begin the summer driving season," DeHaan continued.
