ROCKFORD (WREX) — One might be waking up early Wednesday and double-checking the calendar given the near-freezing temperatures for the morning. Warmer weather is ahead for late-week, but with the warm-up comes the potential for rain.
Frosty mornings are numbered:
Temperatures certainly have not felt very much like mid-May in recent days, but warmer weather is ahead. Before getting to the late-week warm-up, another frosty start is likely early Wednesday. Temperatures across the Stateline fell into the low-to-mid-30s during the pre-dawn hours Wednesday.
Another round of very patchy frost cannot entirely be ruled out Wednesday night, with forecast lows in the upper 30s. The greatest potential for frost maintains itself outside of Rockford proper, where lows could dip into the mid-30s.
Lows Thursday night and beyond do not appear to support lows much below 40°. In fact, by early next week, overnight lows drop into the lower to middle 50s. Afternoon highs also begin to make a climb, especially by the weekend.
Warming up for the weekend:
It's Wednesday and that means the halfway point to the weekend is here! The upcoming weekend does appear to bring a return to more average high temperatures.
Highs Saturday and Sunday climb close to 70°, with overnight lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Unlike the last few mild weekends, gusty winds do not look likely. As for getting outside, showers do make a comeback to Northern Illinois' forecast.
Showers looking more likely:
The pick of the weekend to spend time outdoors is Saturday, as Sunday features higher rain chances. Some higher resolution weather models indicate rain chances move in as early as late Friday, but this potential should wrap up by the afternoon hours Saturday.
On the flip side, Sunday keeps bigger rain chances going. A washout doesn't appear likely, but continue to monitor the forecast in the days to come. Stay updated with the 13 Weather Authority on-air and online for details on specific timing should become more clear by Friday.
