Amboy Fire Department honored

AMBOY (WREX) — Two people were honored Friday for helping the Amboy Fire Department at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tom Suits and Wes Shaw, who are workers at KSB Hospital in Dixon, received service awards. At the start of the pandemic, Suits and Shaw helped KSB provide supplies to Amboy Fire after the fire department gave the hospital N95 masks. Shaw also helped educate firefighters on how to properly wear personal protective equipment, sanitize equipment and socially distance. Now a volunteer firefighter in Amboy, Shaw talked about the importance of volunteering in the community.

"Being a volunteer, it's important to be a part of the community, to give back, to be a part of something bigger than just your normal place of work," said Shaw.

Other members of the Amboy Fire Department were also recognized for their service to the community. Illinois State Rep. Dan Swanson was also recognized for his support of the Amboy Fire Department.
