ROCKFORD (WREX)-Rockford Chief of Police Dan O'Shea spoke with 13 news for the first time since announcing he will officially retire on April 30.
According to Mr. O'Shea, he is proud of his work in community engagement and hopes this will stay after he leaves the force.
"Hopefully that is so embedded in the police department at this point that it's got to be the police and the community and the community and the police," said O'Shea.
The new Chief of Police is expected to take office this summer and their predecessor just wants it to be the best person for the job. O'Shea even offered a piece of advice to the future chief of police.
"Be a good leader. Take care of your people. Do the right thing and always do what's best for the organization and that will translate into success in the community," said O'Shea.
