ROCKFORD (WREX) — History was made at SwedishAmerican Hospital as the first baby was born at the new Women and Children's Hospital.

Lincoln Andrew Nordmoe was born Tuesday afternoon via c-section at the new building, weighing in at 9 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.

He is the fourth child in the family for parents Kari and Andrew, who are from Roscoe.

"This was definitely a surprise for us," Kari said. "I had heard so much about this new building, so it was very exciting when I found out we were delivering here."

To commemorate the historical occasion, the family was gifted with a large basket of items for mom and baby as well as a year's worth of free diapers.

SwedishAmerican President and CEO Tom O'Connor along with a staff or nurses and managers presented the gifts Wednesday afternoon.

"To hear that this is something that will go down in the books for the hospital, that's pretty cool," Andrew said.
