ROCKFORD (WREX) — After a couple of big rivalry games this past weekend, we are now at the halfway point of the shortened high school football season through three weeks. Here are our Top 5 Plays of the Week!

5. Rockford Christian's Caden Norquist airs it out to Isaiah Johnson who reels in the over the shoulder catch for the TD.

4. Dixon's Jacob Gaither sees a receiver, the ball skims the fingertips of Winnebago's Ethan Ackerman and into the hands of Cal Kyker of Dixon, he would get into the end zone for the score.

3. Boylan's Benny Jass with a big run against Hononegah, running a defender over on his way to the land of six for the score. Boylan with a big win over the Indians Saturday.

2. Polo's Tyler Merdian goes to Parker Wolber who makes the beautiful one-handed catch to tie that game, West Carroll would win the contest.

1. Towards the end of the first half, Mendota tries to nail a field goal for momentum heading into halftime, but it's Oregon comes up with the big block, and Issac Reber returns it 99 yards for the score. The Hawks win a tight one, 30-26.

He graduated from Emerson College in May of 2020, just two days before moving to Rockford to take the job at WREX as a Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter. He majored in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Sports Communication.

Sam is originally from Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and has been an avid sports fan his whole life. He played basketball and baseball in high school, and he went on to play collegiate baseball at Emerson.
